Cosmetic Fillings or White or Composite Resin are used in everything from filling cavities to light cosmetic applications.
Composite Resin is a tooth-colored plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide). Composites are not only used to restore decayed areas, but are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth. The main advantage of composite resin is its appearance. It matches the colour of the natural tooth and it can be securely bonded to the existing tooth
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material, which are bonded to the front of a tooth.
This procedure requires little or no anesthesia, and can be an ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed to mask discoloured teeth or change the appearance of teeth. The veneers are bonded to the teeth with very strong resin cement. Porcelain veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns in many situations. They provide a much more conservative approach to changing a tooth's color, size, or shape.
Porcelain veneers can mask undesirable defects, such as teeth stained by tetracycline, by an injury, or as a result of a root-canal procedure, and are ideal for masking discolored fillings in front teeth. Patients with gaps between their front teeth or teeth that are chipped or worn may consider porcelain veneers. Generally, veneers will last for many years, and the technique has shown remarkable longevity.
We offer great teeth whitening options, accomplished in the office or easily at-home.
Teeth naturally darken with age, however staining may be caused by various foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, and wine. Some drugs such as tetracycline and mouth rinses can be factors. Smoking and trauma to your teeth are causes that are more obvious.
Generally, bleaching is successful in at least 90 percent of patients, though it may not be an option for everyone. Studies have proven bleaching safe and effective. Some patients may experience slight gum irritation or tooth sensitivity, which will resolve when the treatment ends.
You may wish to consider tooth bleaching if your teeth are darkened from age, coffee, tea or smoking. Teeth darkened with the color of yellow, brown or orange respond better to lightening. Other types of gray stains caused by fluorosis, smoking or tetracycline are lightened, but results are not as dramatic. If you have very sensitive teeth, periodontal disease, or teeth with worn enamel or cavities, we may delay the whitening treatment and discourage bleaching until those conditions are treated properly.
With a special hand piece and the Ezlase diode laser, teeth are visibly whitened in one visit at the dental office using a real laser, not a high-intensity light like how other systems work.
